CITY: Pope John Paul II, April 2, 2005.Born Karol Jozef Wojtyla on May 18, 1920, in Wadowice, Poland. A student of philosophy, literature and theology at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, he became a priest in 1946, Archbishop in 1964, Cardinal in 1967, and was chosen as Pope in 1978, taking the name John Paul II. He was predeceased by his parents, Karol Sr. & Emilia (Kaczorowska) Wojtyla, and by his only brother, Edmund. Survived by the millions of people whose lives he touched.
